The Wellsboro boys track team placed second in Tuesday’s meet in Athens.

Hunter Brown led the Wellsboro boys team with three wins in the field events.

Brown recorded a mark of 37 feet and one inch in the shot put. In the discus throw, Brown recorded a mark of 122 feet and two inches. With his 145 feet and three inch throw in the javelin contest, Brown placed first by more than 10 feet over second place finisher, fellow Hornet Austin Richards.

Alex Burrell and Brennan Warner also recorded first place finishes for Wellsboro in the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles. Burrell posted a time of 18.92 seconds in the 110 meter event, while Warner finished the 300 meter event in 45.11 seconds.

Brett Rudy placed second in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. In both instances he finished behind Athens sprinter Damian Hudson. Rudy posted a time of 12.19 seconds in the 100 meter race and 24.14 seconds in the 200 meter race.

Wellsboro’s Bergen Weiner placed in the top five in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Weiner posted a time of 2:25.77 in the 800 meter run which was good enough for fifth place. In the 1600 meter run he took a third place finish with a time of 5:25.96.

The Wellsboro girls team took a third place finish in Athens.

Daliah Hosey took first place in the long jump for one of two first place finishes for the girls on the evening. Hosey finished with a mark of 15 feet and eight and one-quarter inches. Just behind Hosey was teammate Megan Starkweather, who posted a distance of 15 feet and five inches in the event. Caitlyn Callahan also recorded a top five finish in the long jump with her mark of 15 feet and one-half inch.

Callahan just missed a first place finish in the triple jump, coming in second behind Athens Ariana Gambrell. In the triple jump Callahan recorded a mark of 31 feet and one-half inch.

The other win for the Wellsboro came in the 300 meter hurdles where Madelyn Rudy finished with a time of 57.78. Sarah Abadi and Kara Doan also took third and fourth in the event with times of 1:01.52 and 1:02.81.

In the 100 meter hurdles Zoe Iseri placed fifth with a time of 21.04 seconds.

The Wellsboro girls team placed second and third in the shot put contest behind Troy’s Morgan Millard in first. Harmony Bennet recorded a mark of 27 feet and three and three-quarters inches for second place. Kiyah Boyce took third with a distance of 24 feet and three and one-quarters inches.

In the discus throw Katie Lynch placed fifth with a distance of 73 feet and eight inches.

In the track events Wellsboro performed well in the sprints with four top five finishes between the three events.

Callahan added to a strong day for Wellsboro with a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.67 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash Lauren Singer took fourth with her time of 30.03 seconds.

Savana Baltzley placed second in the 400 meter dash, just behind Athens Emma Roe. Baltzley’s time of 1:08.63 was less than .40 of a second behind Roe’s 1:07.01 mark.

Alexis Banik placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:12.52.

In the distance runs Wellsboro took fourth place in the 3200 meter run with Madeline Bryant’s time of 15:02.71.

Wellsboro hosted Sayre Wednesday before traveling to Mansfield Friday for the Molly Dry Invitational. The scores from these events will be in next week’s Gazette.
