Mansfield University’s Hunter Watkins capped a remarkable career with an 18th place finish in the javelin at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.
Watkins fouled his first two attempts before registering a mark of 52.29 meters despite an injury. The throw fell below Watkins’ seed mark, but positioned the senior 18th in the nation.
It marks the third consecutive season that Watkins has competed in the javelin at the NCAA Championship meet.
He is a three-time All-PSAC honoree and won the 2018 PSAC javelin title. Watkins has also claimed three All-Atlantic Region nods in his career.
