Hornets volleyball players meet ball at net

WELLSBORO — The Wellsboro Lady Hornets volleyball team (3-0) entered their Thursday, Sept. 17 matchup undefeated, and left with their flawless record intact as they swept the Troy Lady Trojans (0-1) handily with set scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-17.

During the win, senior Bailey Monks for the Wellsboro Lady Hornets team reached an impressive milestone, capturing her 100th career-block and has been a consistent force for Wellsboro on their way to a 3-0 record.

In the first set the Hornets asserted dominance early, and cruised to a 25-14 win with the whole team firing on all cylinders. After a close second set that came down to the wire, the Wellsboro team put Troy away convincingly and took the final set by eight points.

In what many would consider a rebuilding year for the Lady Hornets, they haven’t shown it on the court in the early goings of 2020. Wellsboro showcased superior serving throughout the night with 27 points off serves and six aces against Troy.

Olivia Crocco led the way in kills for the Hornets with four and Bailey Monks recorded three on the night.

Monks was also able to hit a notable milestone, and during the contest sent back her 100th block for the Hornets volleyball team.

Breighann Kemp had a strong outing as well, with eight assists, 13 points and three aces has put her mark on this young Wellsboro team in the early goings of the season.

Another key contributor was Shiloh Duff, who has been a stopper at the net so far this season and recorded four blocks on the night to lead her team.

With the win Wellsboro moved to 3-0 on the season, their next contest was scheduled against Towanda, but was cancelled.
